This June’s Florence Star Award winner is Sukesh. He’s been working as a mental health care assistant and support worker for five years, and loves his job. Here’s why we’re celebrating Sukesh this month…
Reliable and friendly
It’s really important to be positive and professional when working in a health and social care setting. Helpful, knowledgeable care professionals make residents feel secure and help create a supportive and uplifting work environment.
Sukesh, our Florence Star Award winner for June, brings a can-do attitude with him to every shift. He’s kind, thoughtful and doesn’t think twice about going above and beyond for his coworkers and the people he cares for.
“We make a point to book Sukesh because he’s so reliable and good at his job,” said one residential home duty manager. “He has a fantastic demeanour and gets on with anyone and everyone.”
The duty manager told us that when the residential home invited Sukesh to work a shift several months ago, he became part of the team very quickly.
“He’s reliable and committed to his work,” the duty manager said, “and always puts residents first.”
We love to hear feedback like this, and we’re very proud Sukesh is a member of the Florence team.
Sukesh’s journey into care
Sukesh has been a mental health care assistant and support worker for five years. Before that, he worked as a project manager.
“During the pandemic, I started visiting care homes as a volunteer entertainer, playing the drums” he says. “While there, I noticed the bonds care assistants had with residents and felt inspired to switch careers.”
Soon afterward, Sukesh began working full time as a care assistant and support worker specialising in mental health, a role he’s settled into beautifully.
“Working in the care sector is incredibly rewarding,” he says. “The people I work with are kind, and I feel like I’ve made a difference at the end of the day.”
Sukesh is a perfect example of the “care about what you do” Florence value in action, and we think that’s fantastic.
Working with Florence
“Signing up with Florence has given me the chance to work in lots of different parts of the country,” says Sukesh. “Last year, when I moved down to Devon, my account manager arranged shifts for me so I could easily settle in.”
Sukesh enjoys working with Florence and feels the team genuinely care about his wellbeing. He also likes using the Florence app.
“The Florence app is well designed and easy to use,” he says. “I like the different features and use it to keep my schedule organised.”
So, would Sukesh recommend Florence?
“Yes, I certainly would,” he says. “You can find flexible shifts and the pay is really good, too.”
Providing dignity and respect
“Residents depend on me doing my job well,” says Sukesh, “and I want to give everyone I work with dignity, respect and support.”
Dedicated people like Sukesh represent the heart of the health and social care sector, and we’re delighted to give him the Florence Star Award this month.
